How to I talk to my mum about hair removal?

September 21st, 2011

I really am desperate to remove the hair on my legs, but I don’t know how to approach my mum about it. I have researched different hair removal methods, and for me, the Veet hair removal cream looks the best. However, how do I ask my mum about doing this? There always seems to be someone around and when I am just alone with my mum, I get to nervous to ask! Also, do all hair removal creams smell? Are there any that don’t? Thanks :) xxx.

Ok, so I would consider your age before taking up this convo with your mother.
Like say, if you’re 9 or 10 or something shaving isn’t really for your age. It’s just not that important :)
But if you’re upwards of 13, give it a go.

-approach her at a time when she is in a good mood.
-start off gently, like "Mum, can I ask you something?"
-don’t get mad if she doesn’t respond positively.
-talk to her about how you feel about removing hair from your legs (e.g. it would make you feel better about yourself)
-tell her you would really like to start because you think you are responsible and old enough.
-if she starts to see reason, discuss what method is best. (e.g. razor, wax, cream etc)

Just be mature and repsonsible. If all else fails, try again another day. Ask her why she has said ‘no’ and work towards achieving that. If your friends shave/wax/use creams, try it out at their house one night to see if hair removal is for you. It isn’t an important thing for some women.

Good luck :)

How much will it cost 2 remove all my body hair by laser hair removal?

September 13th, 2011

I am currently a fifteen year old gay boy thinking ahead for the future. I have heard that you must be 18 to get laser hair removal is this true? Secondly I am planning sometime in my life to have all my body hair removed by laser hair removal (I fully realize it takes 6-8 sessions). My question is how much will it cost, overall (the whole body & all the sessions) to completely remove ALL of my body hair except facial hair?

your 15 you its great you have embraced yourself in the fact that you are gay but you got plenty of time..but you can always use a hair growth inhibitor to get you started so you just dont grown as much as you age. Remsprings hair-nix is a good product i suggest you use that one.

is it a common thing for people to get laser tattoo removal?

September 11th, 2011

I feel so out of place like i’m the only one who’s doing it.. i don’t know why its not like i’m getting a boob job or plastic surgery, but still /: i’m scared my skin on my upper arm (where my tattoo is) will never look normal again, even after laser tattoo removal.

It’s normal for people to get a tattoo removed since other people do it, not sure how common it is because some people wouldn’t dream of getting their tattoos removed because they love their tattoos. Like the process of getting a tattoo you should make sure that the laser clinic is a good one. If you want a tattoo removed then have a few consultations with some clinics in your area. If they are good at what they do, if they are certified and licensed, then you shouldn’t have too much damage to your skin.

Home salabrasion on india ink tatto?

September 8th, 2011

I tatted my friend on his left thumb, three dots. He has had them for 2 days and regrets it because they are too visible. The tat did not get infected. I used a sterile sewing needle wrapped in string with india ink. Cleaned the area very well with alcohol and then applied aquaphor. The tattoo looks fine, it still hurts a little if he presses on it but he researched and learned about the Salabrasion tattoo removal method and how easy it is to do at home. But could it be harmful to try the salabrasion on a fresh 3 day tattoo? or would that even make the results better?

thanks
Just to let you know this is actually working kind of. Its not getting rid of it completely but its fading pretty good. It could be because im doing it my own way. Just wetting my hand pouring salt on it and rubbing it into the tat roughly with my fingers then soaking for 30 minutes in really hot water then after drying applying vaseline. It may not get rid of it but if you got an india ink tattoo not too long ago that your regret you should try this. Faded it pretty good, thats all i needed. For it to fade not to erase completely.

I’ve never heard of this, so I looked it up. Basically salabrasion is a variation of dermabrasion. Though usually people use something harder like a wire brush or pumice stone. As the ink in your friend’s tattoo hasn’t fully settled yet, this might actually work better than waiting until it’s fully healed. As the first couple of sites I read stated, scarring and infection are the two biggest risks from this procedure. I would rate the infection risk a little higher than a home-made tattoo. Since he’s already done that…. If he decides to do it, I’d love to hear the results here on Y! Answers.

What are some good permanent hair removal creams that actually work?

September 1st, 2011

I do not have the money for laser hair removal so what are some good creams plus i have sensitive skin so please list mild creams that are safe for face & body
prices between 9.99 and 39.99

There are none. If you want permanent you need to see a dermatologist, plastic surgeons all have the technology and then there’s the electrologist–painful and not always permanent.

What to do before laser hair removal appointment?

August 26th, 2011

Ok, I have an appointment Friday for some laser hair removal. Am I supposed to shave my legs like normal, or am I supposed to leave some stubble so the laser has something to zap at. I don’t want to show up unprepared either way. Thanks for the help!

Hi!

Before getting treated, you should shave the area 1-3 days before your appointment. Do not use any other methods of removing hair at least 4-6 weeks prior. Laser hair removal works by targeting hair shafts and destroying them. The laser needs a root to target and destroy. Shaving cuts excess hair allowing the laser to concentrate its energy on the root only, not wasting any energy on hair above the skin’s surface; waxing or other methods of hair removal pull the hair and root out, leaving nothing for the laser to target.

For areas such as the bikini area for women and the neckline for men, if you have hard to see hair, it is best to shave closer to 3 days before your treatment so that some stubble grows back and the specialist can follow your hairline.

Avoid the sun, as the paler your skin, the more effective the laser treatment, as the laser is designed to target the melanin in your hair. An increase in melanin in your skin as a result of sun exposure will reduce the effectiveness of the laser. You should also avoid using self-tanning creams and sprays.

Do not apply any makeup, lotions or creams immediately prior to your appointment.

The same guidelines apply between treatments. Be sure to ask your specialist what to expect and if there are any other special preparations he or she would like you to take. An open dialogue with your specialist is key to a good experience and great results.

How well do hair removal creams work and how long do they last.?

August 24th, 2011

I am sick of having to shave every other day so I thought I would go with a removal cream. How well do they work also do you have let the hair grow out before the first use the way you do with waxing. I hear that with waxing you have to let the hair grow out for 2 weeks with the heat wave my area is having I could never stay covered up for 2 week. It’s not like with the creams I hope.

Longer than shaving. Nearly one week. I’m using hairremoval cream of Nad’s. www.nads.com.au
